"NJAA SID station graph 11/13/01"
Nov 17, 2001
Great News !!!! The NJAA SID station is working!
On November 9th the station was placed back in the observatory's computer room. A look at the weeks data (Nov 10th-15th) consistently show a good sunrise and sunset peak, each day.
Information will be in the December astronotes and I plan to post SID graphs and info in the coming weeks. Great job everyone!

Unfortunately we have had a few technical problems with the station. Our problem was the lack of a sunrise and sunset peak in our data. It is now in the shop for testing. Bill Buntemeyer of the NJAA research group is working hard to find out the problem. I believe that we will be up and running very soon!

NJAA member Richard Bak has provided me with pictures of the NJAA SID monitoring station. These pictures were shot during the
April NJAA research meeting. As of now Steve Smith is working on tuning the antenna. Once that is accomplished we should be able to
start detecting SIDs.
Here is Steve and Garrett Smith describing their work on the NJAA SID station. Steve and
Garret have put a lot of work into the project."
" Here is the SID station. From left to right the
components are,
antenna, VLF receiver and A/D datalogger (housed in one box), and a lab top computer donated by Steve Smith.
"
" The VLF antenna and receiver will collect the signal (NAA in Maine). The A/D datalogger will
digitize the signal which our computer will monitor.

Good news!!! The SID monitoring station is nearing completion. Steve Smith has finished one VLF
receiver, the A/D datalogger, and donated
a lab top computer. Meanwhile Joe has also finished the VLF antenna. Hopefully in about two weeks time, we will be collecting data. But
Steve first needs to spend the next week of so testing the hardware and working out the bugs. There should be some pictures
here of the station in the next few days.

As of now, we are actively working on our SID monitoring station. This consist of constructing
a VLF
receiver, A/D datalogger, and antenna. Hopefully by the end of April, all
components
will have been built and tested.
Once a computer has been allotted
for the project we should be able to start working out any bugs.
On March 26, we came together at NJAA to discuss construction issues. Research member Steve Smith
arrived
with boards for the receiver
and A/D datalogger
that he had personally built. That night Garrett Smith and Gabriala Levit proceeded to construct some of the
receiver. Below are some
pictures that I took.
