A deep sky lovers dream

Ernie's favorite two scopes, are his 18"f5 Tectron DOB and 25" Obsession DOB. Both are high quality scopes. Below Ernie compares the two scopes.

He writes,
"For deep sky the 18" DOB is easier to transport and setup. The mirror is made by Nova and weighs 33 pounds and the entire scope including the upper assembly fits into a box that is only 22" high and weighs just over 100 pounds. When fully assembled the scope stands almost 9' high. The scope is equipped with a 2" focuser made by Tectron, a Telrad for locating bright objects, and Sky Commander Digital setting circles. The 25" is made by Obsession has an enhanced coated mirror which weighs 101 pounds. The scope stands over 11 feet in height and the bottom assembly weighs 240 pounds and is moved around with 10" pneumatic tires on long metal wheel barrow handles. The scope is equipped with JMI DX1 focuser, a telrad, and JMI Max digital setting circles."

A customized planetary scope

Above are two pictures of Ernie's 12.5" f/6.3 dobsonian. It is a custom made planetary scope from Parallax which has a very high quality mirror, aluminum tube with baffling, JMI 2" motor focus, sliding weights, two finders a 20x80, and an 8x50 finderscope on a custom DOB mount that Ernie built himself.
